Beer Lovers Rejoice: Oktoberfest Time!

Everyone loves a reason to feast, especially when the reason is sampling hundreds of different brews from around the world during the German-inspired Oktoberfest celebration. Steins overflow wiith beer and sauerkraut is freshly served for all those who engage in this season's infamous drinking holiday. Oktoberfest, a traditional Bavarian festival held yearly in Munich, has been attracting over 6 million revelers each year, making it possibly the world's largest festival. The first Oktoberfest was held on October 12, 1810, in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities lasted for days and ended with a horse race. The celebration became a huge success, leading to its repetition every year since. However, horse racing was suspended in 1960. Oktoberfest's success has become a global event and many cities now celebrate the holiday, predominantly in cities where large German populations are present.

The German American Social Club of South Florida will be hosting Oktoberfest Miami on October 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23 at 11919 SW Miller Road. For more information, call 305-552-5123
