More Doctors Should Be Like Dr. Mistry!
What the hell? After the fevers, night sweats, and sore throat he was still sick. I have never had to take care of someone like this before and never realized the pain of loving one so much and hurting so bad when you see them in this shape. Finally after 6 days of this he agreed to go to see the doctor in DeKalb.
I always dread the DeKalb Clinic. They don't do much, charge you $122 dollars for the check up fee an then $68 dollars for a strep test at which if it's not strep send you home with a prescription for Amoxicillin. Oh I also forgot, they send you home with a copy sheet of things to do such as drink warm water, get cough drops, and pain killers for high fever. I would wake up crying because he was so damn warm. I thought it was cooking him alive. I love him so much.
I was happy that my boyfriend, Swithin finally agreed to go to the clinic. You see, he's from France where people usually heal fast within 4 days or so and the government's system is so good for every medical visit is free. I'm not worried so much about the bill for him because we will be reimbursed. What I can't stand is that the stupid doctor just gave amoxicillin because it wasn't strep.
That weekend we spent a night at my grandmother's in Park Ridge, IL and she gave me vitamins the daily vitamin C and B-Complex. I downed it with her special fruit and vegetable blend. Then I looked at Swithin who I didn't want to feel left out. I asked her for some vitamins and the drink so I could give it to him.
At first attempt to take the B-Complex vitamin which is huge and bitter, he just put his hand to his throat and stood up! I thought he was choking, because I have almost choked on that stupid pill many times. I was trying to recall the maneuver in which I could help him.
He ran upstairs and threw up! I was crying. . . I was scared. If I'm already this worried with a grown man, imagine when I have children, wheww!!! Later on, he told me he didn't even have the pill in his throat, he just got the sensation of purging and tried to control it. It must have been the amoxicillin!
I was like, " That's it! We need to go see the same doctor, Dr. Patel, but I don't want to pay another fee!" So I called the clinic up and the administrator, we'll call her Jaime because that's her name would not allow me to speak to the doctor. I vowed that I would write about them and here it goes. I understand that the doctor was not in but she should have been able to call me back. After paying so much for a fee, and not being given the right pills, you should at least be able to speak to your doctor. I let her have a piece of my opinion and told her how now I really agreed with the majority in DeKalb that do not trust the DeKalb Clinic.
What the hell could it be? I called my gynocologist's wife at his office and asked for her help on finding a clue to solve this. He had been coughing persistently since after taking the pills and I knew it was a phase but this is ridiculous, it had been 2 weeks already by this time!
Finally, we drove around and found a doctor for throat, we were refused to see him without an appointment. I said but if the doctor's there can you just let him touch his throat because at this point he was starting to have a swollen lymph node which I thought may have been his thyroid. This shows my knowledge of my anatomy, they are in two completely different places. People have their expertise and knowledge but all of the sudden cannot use it without an appointment. That is hypocrytically to their credentials and morals, so I thought.
Almost out of hope, I turn and am ready to walk out, then I hear him whisper, "What about this doctor?" I look at the sign says GENERAL PRACTICIONER. I was like ahh, I dont know but you know what what the hell. All of the sudden I saw a girl from high school by the name of Theresa! She and I used to always talk in the library about relationships and she was pregnant at that time. She was pregnant again with her 3rd! Anyway I asked her if she would please ask the doctor to just see my boyfriend. I couldn't afford the full price but I would still pay.
Voila! Dr Jehangir P. Mistry, M.D. came around and said he would. For how much? It was cheap! Only $15 dollars. Now I'm not saying everyone should call him and ask for this price but it's doctors like him that really get satisfaction and receive respect by people like me and Swithin. I hope that everyone can celebrate this wonderful doctor and call his office to thank him at (815)756-6611. Later on it turned out that he knew my father who used to own the Thai restaurant in DeKalb, so I guess good people come together in times of crisis.
It was a blessing and doctors and administrators at clinics like the DeKalb Clinic should take another look at themselves and their Karma. Reflecting will make doctors around the world realize what's more important hospital policy or human hospitality and their true mission.
If you call to thank Dr. Mistry, please let him know he's appreciated.
Dr. Mistry is no mystery, he does what is Obvious and Appreciated!
