Who's Still Skinning Animals for Faux Fur!?!

"Diddy said in Dec '06 That he would take off all the faux fur off the racks and it's March '07) How can anyone think they're wearing faux when it's dog fur from animals skinned alive.... I don't care what kind of animal, no such animal deserves this. Ever!"

Some more info on these practices here.

Investigation reveals 'faux' fur is really from dogs

Based on an investigation by the Humane Society of the United States , several major retailers are pulling coats made in China because alleged "faux" fur trim actually is dog fur, while other coats labeled as "raccoon" or "rabbit" are really made from raccoon dogs that are skinned alive (Warning: graphic images). Other coats are mislabeled or unlabeled with fur from the raccoon dog, a canine cousin.

As the Associated Press notes , the stores include Nordstrom's, Neiman Marcus, J.C. Penny, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory and Macy's, and such brands as Tommy Hilfiger, Andrew Marc, Oscar de la Renta, DKNY.

Here's video of the Humane Society investigation, which found:

· Dog fur sold online as "faux" by Nordstrom's, Tommy Hilfiger and Bluefly.com. The brands involved are Tommy Hilfiger, Joie and Andrew Marc.

· Raccoon dog fur on coats sold online as "raccoon" by Neiman Marcus, Dillard's and Loehmann's (via Smartbargains.com), and as "rabbit" by Bergdorf Goodman and Footlocker. The brands involved were Andrew Marc, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Bogner and Rocawear.

· Misidentified or unlabeled raccoon dog fur sold on jackets by retailers and brands including DKNY, Lord and Taylor, Ross, D.E.M.O, Rocawear, Macy's, Baby Phat, J.C. Penney and Burlington Coat Factory.

Earlier this month, the Dog and Cat Fur Prohibition Enforcement Act was introduced in the U.S. House. It seeks "to ensure that domestic dog and cat fur is prohibited from being imported, exported, manufactured, sold, or advertised in the United States and to require the labeling of all fur products under the Fur Products Labeling Act." It also would ban the sale of fur from raccoon dogs, and would also require that all fur garments, regardless of value, be labeled.
