You Save ( Money + Home + Energy )
Do one or two things today that can contribute to your well-being.
Change your light bulb to a CFL (compact fluorescent light by GE)
Did you know a stack of 5 morning newspapers took a 40 foot tree to make!?! Recycle that. It costs only $5.99 and if you save the receipt it can be tax deductible!
By calling your Sanitation Department you can find out what types of plastic and glass they recycle. Check the bottle below for the numbers 2 or 3 because not all areas recycle that but you can request and demand change. Did you know Glass takes 200 years to start breaking down? Just reuse that!
Request that restaurants not to use styrafoam for packages. Educate them. One couple bought a hybrid car, now wash only with cold water to conserve energy as well as clear the lint from dryers to conserve energy not just for us but for their costs. The requested a home energy house call and the inspector found some cold spots in which they should buy a cauk to seal the air out as well because many people do not realize but weather stripping and keeping a well insulate home saves so much.
Duke energy recently gave the Oprah viewers lightbulbs to get started. Make a difference in your community and be a leader.
Enjoy watching PLANET EARTH ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL.
There's a story about a polar bear there that dug a hole for himself to die because he was so tired after swimming over 60 miles to the next ice berg. We people are literally just taking from the planet and not giving back. Another way to help is to go to www.americanforest.org and for every dollar you spend a new tree is planted for you. Within one month we each use up 940 tons of oxygen and with the cars and energy we are using we need to help out for the sake of ourselves, our children, our earth.
Recycle styrafoam packaging by asking the local package company in your town if they would like to have it and they will greatly appreciate it.
Below is an explanation of styrafoam from another website.
Styrafoam is an oil-based product. Styrafoam pollutes the Earth because it cannot be decomposed. Often, many animals mistake the styrafoam as food and eats it, dying soon after. Back to the fact that styrafoam can not be decomposed. Since styrafoam can not be decomposed, it takes up a lot of landfill space. Even after a million years, the styrafoam would be there, still taking up the same amount of landfill space. (library.thinkquest.org)
