BREAKING NEWS: NICOR OVER BILLED, YET AGAIN!
It really comes as no surprise to me as someone has contacted me with the same information of Nicor's incompetencies. Last year they had over billed me by $800 if I hadn't checked the bill.
I just received an email from Jocelyn Billard regarding his gas bill in which he was over billed by Nicor Gas too!
Was this another fraud or occasional "oops" by Nicor which just happened to be caught by a careful customer. I'll let you read and decide. But before you go on, we want others like us, to contact us so we can come together and spring into action a plan to figure out what is going wrong with Nicor.
The letter as of March 29th 2008 reads:
Anne,
I have just read your post on the internet about Nicor.
I experienced the same issue with error reading my meter expected this time it happened right before exchanging my meter, (very convenient isn't it).
I am looking for more people like you to sue their ass, and prove that they are committing fraud.
I am not going to give up on that one
any suggestionns ?
i have attached the reply from the customer care below
thanks

Good afternoon. Our records do show two actual readings taken 02/19/08
and 03/03/08. This was a very cold time period and more gas is used the
colder it is outside. If you have any other questions, please let me
know. Thank you for contacting Nicor Gas.

I am writing this email to dispute the reading which was taken by your gas men
when exchanging the meter on March 3rd 2008.
What alerted me was the amount on therms usage from February 19 to March 3rd when the meter was exchanged. The difference of the 2 readings shows 168 therms for 13 days. which is absolutely ridiculous. It is obvious that there is a discrepancy there since, i have never ever consumed this much gas in 13 days (look up at my history)in addition of this i had already started turning off my furnace during the day when not home and lowering settings at night since the weather had been nicer. i know for a fact the reading could not have possibly be higher than the month before.
I am demanding a full investigation on this matter.
I have been a loyal customer and always paid my bill, however i will not pay this one until this problem is resolved.
Sincerely,
Jocelyn Billard
Above as you'll see, they realized they made a mistake when they found the meter was reading incorrectly and it was the fault of an old equipment that should have also been updated, accountable and as Billard says, "the point is that, even though all situations are a bit different. It is fraud because, they make mistakes X 1000 customers, hoping that nobody calls. If only 5 % of people complain they will make big bucks."
The funny thing you'll notice is that the same person who handled my call and his call is a person with the same name which as Billard said, "it's a bit fishy."
If you are being over billed or if Nicor overbilled you please feel free to contact Jocelyn Billard at his email izzyoo7@yahoo.com or Anne Meesriyong at anne4911@hotmail.com.
He has also contacted the Chicago Tribune in Jan of 2008 in which the posting could be found here:

Check your bill and meter regularly, don't let this happen to you.
